Fine dining at "Jordan" in the winelands, Stellenbosch, South Africa

No trip to South Africa and Cape Town would be complete without a trip to the famous winelands - miles of glorious mountainous landscape and an obscene amount of vineyards and varieties of wine. I have already blogged about South Africa but we were reminiscing the other day and I realised I never actually blogged about our dining experience in Jordan, and being one of the best meals I have ever had, I have to share it!

We arrived on a Thursday night to Stellenbosch, just before the Easter weekend, which meant the majority of the good restaurants were either closed or fully booked. However we did manage to squeeze ourselves in for an early reservation at “Jordan”, a vineyard with a restaurant on site with spectacular views of Stellenbosch, with the rolling mountains in the background.

We chose this restaurant by total chance but if you are ever at the winelands, then you have to go here - amazing wines and first class service, with four courses of fine dining for just £35 each. We were also given a delicious bread selection with chutneys as a starter to our actual starter. I don't think I have ever spent 3 hours eating in one go!!!

our starter to our starter!!!

Our fourth course included a trip to the ‘cheese room’ to select a choice of cheeses to finish. An actual room full of cheese, chutneys and aperitifs. Amazing.

For me and the Boy, this is definitely one of the best dining experiences we have ever had!!!!

You know it’s a good meal when you like dishes that contain ingredients that you hate (looking at you artichoke). Even if you are not a wine drinker, you’ll still appreciate the pure quality of this restaurant. Like all the vineyards it is a little way out so you’ll need a car or taxi to take you there but it is worth it. Get there early too so you can watch the sun set over the vineyards, with the sky turning purple and the clouds rolling over the mountain.

Beautiful.

how gorgeous is the setting!
